DH.88 COMET "BLACK MAGIC" (Airfix)

This is an Airfix 1/72 scale model of the DH.88 racing aircraft named Black Magic. The real aircraft was on a UK-Australia air race when it finally died in Pakistan due to using the incorrect fuel. Only one example remains - a sister aircraft in red at the Shuttleworth Collection in England. It was a quick build and painted with a spray can of outdoor furniture gloss back. I used strips of bare metal foil on the canopy. Decalling was a nightmare as the decals are very poor quality and fogged completely within 5 minutes. A lot of decal setting solutions was used and I waited (without looking) overnight to find the decal elves had come and fixed everything! The kit came from Hobby House of Ottawa and cost about $10. There is almost no detail as this is an older Airfix kit, but it was a fun build. Somehow it placed second in a local contest -- it must have been an off day for other builders.
